In the early 2000s there was a Star Wars collectible miniatures game. Pre-painted plastic figures for that game were very widely available. Which allowed me to collect many (MANY) Star Wars armies that I use for Fantasy Triumph. The figures are about 32mm in scale.
The game still exists, although it is no longer possible to find Clone Troopers on ebay for 15 cents each. I wish it well, even though I've never played it and likely never will -- it has been the source for a huge number of armies, and the creative inspiration for a large number of camps, for me.
This is a toy produced in the 1970s that happens to be perfect scale for Star Wars armies. There is a tab (hidden in these pictures) that allows you to aim the huge orbital blaster, rotating the sphere and tilting it as desired. If you press down on the observation pillar, the main gates open.
The interior was sheet plastic; I created appropriate flooring for it on an MDF base and added snow flocking; I spread the interior of the cavern with paintable bathroom caulk and dabbed it to create the appearance of a rough interior carved from snow and ice.
All the figures are Star Wars prepainted plastics, cut off their bases and glued down. The interior crewed weapons likewise, although those had to be modified and placed on bases to raise them enough they could fire through the pillbox firing slots.
This camp is one of a pair I made for a scenario of the battle on the Tantive IV, where Darth Vader led an assault on the crew defending Princess Leia. It represents the reinforced lock where the Imperials made their initial breach.
Almost all the details here are 3D printed. The walls themselves are foamcore. This camp has internal LED lighting, but it doesn't show itself well in photography. Looks pretty cool in person, though. You can see the battery and switch on the top left of the interior shot.
I didn't use any troops for the camp because I wanted it to serve both Imperial and Rebel armies. So it will work fine for any science fiction armies in 28mm scale (80mm basing).
This is the second camp built for the Tantive IV battle, where Leia's rebels attempt to hold off the assault of Imperial Stormtroopers at the start of the first (4th) Star Wars movie.
Here I went with a very simple exterior -- just the sealed door. The interior has all the cool 3D printed screens, consoles, computers, and a hologram projector. The hologram projector has multiple different spheres that can be used -- here I've got Tattooine up, because that's the planet they were over during the battle, but I also have other planets that can be substituted for different battles.
Painting flat plastic to look like active computer screens, or glowing green electrical devices of some sort (computer-ish things) is really difficult. It came out okay, but I've still got a lot to learn.
Like the other camp of the pair, this is made for armies in 28mm scale (80mm basing). The actual Star Wars figures in my army are more like 32mm figures, but the base scale is still 80mm.
No figures were mounted for this camp to allow me to use it for an Imperial command center or for a Rebel one.
The flooring here deserves a mention -- I wanted something high-tech and fancy looking. It is plastic screening for fluorescent light fixtures, trimmed down and placed over white MDF.
