TA 1 - Fourth Age
All cultures to the east of Mordor and north of Khand are called Easterlings by Westron forces. This army list represents the tribes living around the inland Sea of Rhûn in the Third Age. The more powerful civilization further east, beyond the Mountains of the East, is differentiated as the Easterling Empire.
In TA 490 Easterlings invaded Gondor; they were driven off by TA 500, and attacked again in TA 541 until completely conquered by King Turambar around TA 550. In TA 1248 Minalcar of Gondor defeated a large army of Easterlings; he built the Pillars of the Argonath and took the name Rómendacil.
Forces from the cultures around the Sea of Rhûn mustered major invasions into Rhovanion and East Gondor twice, first as the Wainriders and later as the Balchoth. Both of those were confederations of tribes acting under the direction of Mordor and have their own army lists.
