Games Workshop Khandish are great, although the number of poses is low. The infantry in particular are good for Variags, with axe-bearing foot and armored archers. There aren’t a lot of poses or variety for infantry. I don’t much like the back-banners, but that’s a personal taste.
Historical figures for Mongols work to mix with the mounted archers and less heavily armored foot troops. The helmets are quite similar in style.
Armored infantry from Medieval Russia, Persian, Tarim Basin Citystates, Sogdians, Western Xia, or similar will work for cataphract chariot crew and Pavise footmen; another possibility is later Assyrian heavy infantry.
Classical Indian and Later Achaemenid Persian chariots are a good source for chariots with barded horses; later Assyrian chariots are also good.
The Axemen of Khand mentioned in the description of the Battle of the Pelennor Field.
All GW MESBG figures, metal. Nice figs. Not cheap, but nice.
The one Khand foot pack includes both foot archers and foot axemen. These guys are clearly well-equipped, so are rated as Skirmishers (elite skirmishing bow).
GW MESBG figures. Metal.
These are plastic Mongol figures that mix well with the GW MESBG figures, style-wise.
The best infantry forces of the trade-route cities of Khand are these fellows, with massed city militia bowmen protected by a layer of armored spearmen holding large shields (pavises) of woven bamboo.
All figures are 28mm plastics. The bowmen are the same as the City Militia Bow. The foot are Medieval Russian armored foot, which mix in well here, using the pavises that came with the Mongol bowmen figures.
This is an example of how to put together a chariot pulled by four armored horses. The chariot is a Classical Indian chariot by Vendel Miniatures, pulled by four Persian/Seleucid Cataphract horses (also Vendel Miniatures). Outriders on the two outside horses are also Vendel. The crew in the chariot are all armored Medieval Russian figures -- the same heavy armor as in the Pavise stands above. One archer, two spearmen.
Straight up normal Chariot for Khand.
This is a GW MESBG stand.
The forces of Khand include a number of Horsebow in addition to their Chariots (heavy and regular). Here are two of their stands. One figure is MESBG metal (the foreground guy on the left with the back banner); the others are all Mongol horsemen painted in the same color palette.
