In the army discussion below troop types are described in the format:
Light Foot (Brittle -2): 1 pts each
+3/+2, missile defense +3, move 5 MU
Which means (for this example) that the base troop type to be used in Fantasy Triumph is Light Foot, and they should have the Brittle battle card. Brittle reduces the cost by 2 points. The base cost of Light Foot is 3 pts, so with Brittle each stand costs 1 point. The numbers that follow are the combat factors and movement as specified in Fantasy Triumph (as modified by the battle cards).
Most common center for army command for a Martian Menace army.
The best representation for these kaiju in Fantasy Triumph is:
War Wagon (Deadly +2, Massive +0, Marksman +1, Flying Fast +2): 8 pts each
+4/+5, missile attack +4, missile defense +2 (with Armored), move 4 MU, +1 command point to move
Galaxius-5 can only hover near ground level, so is not a flying stand per the Fantasy Triumph rules.
The best representation for these kaiju in Fantasy Triumph is:
Cataphract (Deadly +2, Armored +1/2, Massive +1, Ranged Attack +1): 8.5 pts each
+5/+5, missile attack +2, missile defense +3 (with Armored), move 4 MU
Deimos-9 is one of the Martian Menace's deadly tripod kaiju.
The best representation for these kaiju in Fantasy Triumph is:
Knight (Deadly +2, Armored +1/2, Massive +1): 7.5 pts each
+4/+5, missile defense +2 (with Armored), move 5 MU
Phobos-7 is another of the Martian Menace's deadly tripod kaiju, this one with some dangerous ranged attack ability
The best representation for these kaiju in Fantasy Triumph is:
Knight (Deadly +2, Armored +1/2, Massive +1, Ranged Attack +1): 8.5 pts each
+4/+5, missile defense +2 (with Armored), move 5 MU
The Martians have a devastating long-range weapon.
The best representation for the Deathray in Fantasy Triumph is:
Artillery (Hearten +1, Armored +1/2, Massive +0, Marksman +1): 5.5 pts each
+2/+2 (with Hearten), missile attack +5, missile defense +3 (with Armored), move 2 MU
This figure is not one of the original MonPoc figures -- it is constructed by cutting and chopping a Tharsus-5 head (I don't much like that Tharsus-5 as a figure, so I don't use it) and a Martian Base building (I've got lots of them), using exacto knives and crazy glue.
Many Martian vehicles are flying; these are two of their common types.
The best representation for these forces in Fantasy Triumph is:
Horsebow (Flying Slow +1): 5 pts each
+2/+3, missile defense +1, move 8 MU
I often mix Marauder and Vanguard figures on a base when basing Martian Menace armies.
These dangerous flying vehicles can fire at range with devastating effect.
The best representation for these forces in Fantasy Triumph is:
Shooter (Flying Fast +2): 6 pts each
+2/+4, missile defense +2, move 5 MU
These effective flying units mirror the shape of the Mothership in a much smaller form.
The best representation for these forces in Fantasy Triumph is:
Elite Cavalry (Flying Slow +1): 5 pts each
+3/+3, missile defense +2, move 6 MU
The dangerous tripod ground troops that make up much of the Martian Menace army's non-flying component.
The best representation for these forces in Fantasy Triumph is:
Raider (no battle cards): 4 pts each
+4/+2, missile defense +3, move 4 MU
Despoilers are small tripods with effective ranged weapons. These can be used in two different ways in the Martian Menace army. Most commonly they are used in a skirmishing fashion, to delay and disorder slower enemy forces. More rarely they are combined in groups to generate massed ranged fire against enemy fliers and other fast troops.
The best representation for these forces in Fantasy Triumph is one of the following. Either:
Skirmisher (Slow -1/2): 2.5 pts each
+2/+1, missile defense +3, move 4 MU
or in this form:
Shooter (no battle cards): 4 pts each
+2/+4, missile attack +3, missile defense +3, move 3 MU
When basing up Despoilers, put two figures on a Skirmisher base, and four figures on a Shooter base.
Despoilers as Shooters
Despoilers as Skirmishers
In addition to the Reapers and Despoilers, the Martian Menace army has smaller tripods used for fighting in difficult terrain.
The best representation for these forces in Fantasy Triumph is:
Light Foot (Slow -1/2): 2.5 pts each
+3/+2, missile defense +3, move 4 MU
Fantasy Triumph hero stands for the Martian Menace forces can be represented with the Power Pod, Nullifier Pod, a spare Marauder or Vanguard figure, or (best of all), the Galaxius Core unit (one of the four pieces that comes with a Galaxius-4 kaiju).
Some possibilities for battle cards for heroes would be Negate Magic or Armored (perhaps with the Nullifier), Hearten (with the Power Pod), Deadly (Galaxius Core), and more. Orbital Bombardment is also a cool possibility, same as with the GUARD heroes:
Hero with (Limited Spellblast (physical) +3): 4 pts each. Representing a spotter or forward air controller associated with orbital bombardment resources.
Galaxius Core
Power Pod
Nullifier Pod
Marauder
In HG Wells "War of the Worlds" the invaders from Mars brought with them a pernicious red weed. One of the army battle cards available in Fantasy Triumph is Prepared Defenses (costs 1/2 pt per "stand"). So here it is, Red Weed, acting as Prepared Defenses in Triumph for the Martian Menace army.
The first image below shows Red Weed as it would appear in the game when no army stands are interacting with it. The "weed" on top is standard Wargames Scenics moss, spraypainted first white and then red. (spraypainting it directly white doesn't work well). That weed is removable (not attached to the stand) so it does not interfere with play. The second picture below shows how the Red Weed prepared defenses stands appear with the red moss taken off.
The prepared defenses stands are built by spreading paintable bathroom caulk onto stiff craft felt, letting it dry, then painting, washing, drybrushing, and flocking as I describe in my page on basing. They are cut to size afterwards because it gives a much better edge than cutting the felt to size first and then applying the caulk. After the base is completely dry, painted, flocked and everything I used a needle and moderately thick thread to give it four or so long strands of thread (piercing the base and tied in the back). Then I smooged the threads with PVA (white glue) using my fingers (faster), arranged them decoratively on the base (winding it around) and threw some flocking on it. When the PVA was dry I painted the flock on the vines red (brush this time, not spraypaint).
